A Relationship Between Depression and Spiritual well-being in Elderly Long-term Care Insurance Client: the Mediating Effect of Family Support

Abstract
This study was done to figure out the mediated effects of family support on relationship between depression and spiritual well-being(SWB) by examining the levels of depression, SWB of senior people who receive long-term care insurance. Data has been collected from 96 elders who receive long-term care insurance from September to December in 2010 and the relationship between variables and their mediated effects have been recorded through a narrative correlation analysis. To collect data, structured questionnaire, which measures indexes for depression, SWB and family support, has been used. The collected data has been analyzed by using SPSS Win 17.0 Program. The results are as follows. The scores for depression, SWB and family support have been 7.90 out of 15, 68.6 out of 80 and 31.7 out of 50 respectively. There has been significant reversed correlation between depression and family support whereas family support and SWB appeared to have positive correlation. Family support has been found by the participants to take mediated effect on depression and SWB. Accordingly, mediation would be effective for utilization of family support to prevent or lower the level of depression for senior people those who receive long-term care insurance.
